Anjali Shenoy

Learn about what it’s like to be a solutions architect through the eyes of Anjali Shenoy, a CGI Partner based in the UK.

Anjali, tell us about your role as a solutions architect at CGI.

My role as a solutions architect involves shaping the overall system architecture, creating technical blueprints, and designing solutions that align with our clients’ business goals. I also make sure these solutions are secure and can grow with our clients’ needs. I work with clients in the energy and utilities sector, including those focused on renewable energy, as well as fleet and mobility.

At its core, my role helps connect the dots between what our clients’ business needs are and how we use our technology and consulting expertise to meet those needs. I serve as a link between strategy and execution, ensuring that the solutions we build and implement not only work technically, but also drive the right outcomes for the client.

Did you always envision this career path?

I started my career as a software developer, where I built a strong foundation in technology. Over time, my passion for design and strategy led me to architecture and in 2017, I joined CGI as a solutions architect. I was drawn to the opportunity to work at the intersection of strategic thinking and technical execution. This role aligns with my strengths, including strategic and analytical thinking as well as creative problem-solving, which I enjoy.

Tell us about a project that positively impacted a client.

A recent project that stands out involved designing a customer relationship management (CRM) platform to support sales, service and marketing operations for an energy client. Our solution enabled the client to gain a unified, 360-degree view of their customers across all departments, which significantly improved cross-functional collaboration across different teams and service response time.

It also laid the groundwork for a scalable platform that supports the client’s expansion into new renewable energy offerings and customer segments. This upgrade made a real difference in how efficiently they run their operations and position themselves for future growth.

How do you continue to grow your skills as a solutions architect?

CGI has a strong culture of learning that values professional development. With the support of my leaders, I prioritize staying up-to-date with emerging technologies, which is especially important in our fast-moving industry.

I regularly participate in internal knowledge-sharing sessions on AI and other tech topics. These are great ways to stay informed and learn from my peers. I also set aside a few hours each week to focus on skill-building, whether that’s through training offered by my team or preparing for professional certifications. I’ve benefited a lot from CGI’s learning resources, including our digital learning platform CGI Academia, and the guidance of leaders who are genuinely invested in my growth—both professionally and personally.

What does a typical day look like?

I usually start my day around 7 a.m. with about 30 to 40 minutes of yoga. It’s a great way to clear my mind and set a positive tone for the day. After that, I catch up on the news and get ready to start work. I check emails and review my calendar to prioritize tasks and prepare for meetings. Then I move on to any pending items and plan out the day’s deliverables before diving into project work.

Whether I’m working from a CGI office or a client site, I always look forward to connecting with colleagues over lunch. When I work remotely, I make it a point to take a short walk outside during lunch to recharge. Before I wrap up for the day, I take a few minutes to review emails again and jot down any key priorities for the next day.

In the evenings, I enjoy unwinding with a walk in the park, a gym session, or sometimes a dance or painting class. Spending time with my family and playing with my cat are easily the best parts of my evening routine.

What part of your job is most fun, and what do you enjoy most about working at CGI?

One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is working closely with diverse stakeholders to solve real-world problems. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about seeing our ideas come to life and creating meaningful outcomes for our clients.

What I really appreciate about CGI is the collaborative culture. It’s a place that truly encourages thought leadership and values ethical practices and diversity. This is an environment that makes me feel both empowered and supported.

It’s great to hear your story, Anjali. On a final note, looking back, what advice would you give your younger self?

I’d tell myself to stop waiting for everything to feel perfectly aligned or for that moment when I feel 100% ready. Honestly, that moment rarely comes. Growth usually happens when you’re slightly uncomfortable…when you take that leap before you feel fully prepared.  Some of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned came from situations where I felt out of my depth at first, but those experiences stretched me in the best ways and helped me grow far more than I expected.
